It was with great excitement that I boarded my train to London on Friday, ready to travel north for the long awaited twin launch of KD Grace’s latest novel The Pet Shop, along with editor extraordinaire Maxim Jakubowski’s new novel Ekaterina and the Night.
Hosted by the wonderful Sh! in Hoxton, London, KD and Maxim regaled us all with passages from their novels, which would have warmed the cockles of the stoniest heart, or should that be, heated the….yeah, you get the idea…the readings were delicious.
Interspersed with some simply amazing (and incredibly kinky) poetry from the hilarious and incredibly talented Mel Jones and Alan Wolfson of Kiss the Sky, the evening went with a blast of champagne corks and a mouthful of cupcakes. Many smiles and laughs were shared-especially during the most interesting raffle I have ever taken part in…I may one day forgive Miss Rebecca Bond for winning the star prize I really wanted!!!!
As has become our practise over the years, we writer types retired to a local pizza establishment for a much needed meal and the odd glass of something soothing after the launch. It was wonderful to catch up with KD and her husband, the lovely Raymond, Lucy Felthouse and her right hand Ian, and Lexie Bay and her sidekick Doug.
A fuller account of proceedings can be found on the blog of KD Grace herself- and if any of you haven’t yet sampled either KD’s or Maxim’s wares, then you really must….
