Annabel Allan: Wildfire

Today I’m delighted to welcome Annabel Allan to my blog to give us an insight into her work as an erotic romance writer.

Over to you Annabel…

How did I get into writing erotic romance?

I already had a background in romance (historical romance), so the romance part was easy! It was the erotica part that was actually difficult to get into, since my sex scenes before were just “love scenes” and didn’t go into descriptive detail.

I found inspiration in other novels, such as Maya Banks Breathless Series and Shayla Black’s Wicked Lovers Series (both excellent series!). It was great to find hot erotic romance that I could learn from. I tried to learn from their style and adapt my own.

It was a learning experience, that’s for sure! But, I just did as my muse told me and wrote Wildfire, which at the time was under the working title Licking the Flames.

I actually had no plans on making a series, but I had inadvertently made the ending open ended for a second novel. My spidery-sense must have been tingling at that point!

After I queried a few publishers and agents, I got accepted by Accent Press and signed for a three book deal, which of course, led to four books. Again, not my plan, but you got to go with the flow.

I saw that office romances were actually quite popular, so I decided that would be the setting. Then I used my ideal man for Quinn and based Stephanie on myself, hence it being her POV. I then just took fantasies and turned them into prose. It seemed to work, especially with the romance aspect of the novel.

I also decided to set it in my city, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I know the city fairly well and figured being in a big city can make for some good drama, as seen in Firewhirl.

What’s next for Annabel Allan?

It’s actually going to be the BDSM world with her new series Risqué Behaviour. Much like Shayla Black’s Wicked Lovers series, a personal favourite of mine, it’s going to take secondary characters from each novel and make them main characters in the next. Each will have a theme and it’s going to be extremely spicy. I’m very excited for it!

Blurb for Wildfire

Stephanie Fournier is a simple assistant at a law firm in Toronto, Ontario. She has her 9 to 5, but her real dream is to be a famous writer — until Robert Quinlan, the gorgeous CEO of the company takes up her thoughts. At first she takes to his obvious interest with glee…and then he finds out she’s a virgin. His sudden disinterest is not only embarrassing, but awkward around the workplace, especially with the heat still present between them. Stephanie sets out to prove she’s unshaken, only to entice him back into her thrall. But can an amateur really win over an expert in the art of seduction?

Time Tracking with Samantha Winston

I’m delighted to be joined by Samantha Winston. She is with me today to share a little from her latest erotic adventure Time Tracking.

Over to you Samantha…

Hi Kay, and thank you for having me as a guest blogger! I’m really pleased to be here today to talk about my favourite thing : (well, favourite thing besides chocolate!) time-travel!

What would happen if a man from the past were brought to life in the present – a man frozen for centuries..? That’s what happens when Kell’s body is found in the Arctic, sold to the US Army, and reanimated in an ultra-secret base in Alaska (that everyone knows about).  In order to communicate, the army hires Allie, an expert in ancient languages. But the scientists don’t want Kell as an anthropological case – they want to study his brain and body for cryogenics. Not good news for Kell, who is basically a prisoner about to be executed. Allie decides to save him, and they set out in the Arctic with nothing but some high-tech snowsuits (thank you, US Army corps) and Kell’s knowledge of survival in the wilderness.

In the second part of the book, Bruce Steele, a tracker, wakes up in the far future. He’s been reanimated on a space station, somewhere in the Hera Galaxy. He’s alone – except for a very sexy, extremely pedantic android who is supposed to teach him all about modern society – except how can he concentrate with a raging hard-on? Apparently, when you’ve been frozen and thawed out – your extremities tingle…the scientists will be fascinated with that bit of info. Until then, Steele, a game tracker,  has to find a niche in an ultra-sophisticated technological world!

Time travel has always been my favourite subject – The Road to Alexander, published by Accent Press, is about a woman sent back to ancient Greece to interview Alexander the Great. So when I read about a man found in a glacier, and nearly intact, my mind started buzzing. Wouldn’t it be incredible to have him wake up and tell us about his life in the past? But how could he communicate? And from there, I imagined the story of Kell and Allie. But because I grew fond of the man tracking them, Bruce Steele, I made a story just for him, where he’s flung into the future and has to face the same sort of culture-shock Kell, the man from the Iron Age, did.

Excerpt:
Kell sat still, his eyes taking in her every move. As before, some things seemed familiar, while others made no sense. The brazier had a collapsible tube that fit into a hole in the tent. That made sense since smoke was a problem for tents. This brazier was made of white metal and stood on three sturdy legs. All that he had seen before. But this brazier had another, smaller tube that ran from the brazier to a small blue jug. The jug had a handle that turned, and a blue flame sprang from the top of the brazier so suddenly that Kell flinched.
Allie turned and patted his arm. “I’m sorry. All this must seem so strange to you.”
He closed his eyes. Strange was not the word. Everything he had known had become twisted and bizarre. Familiar things had mutated into frightening machines. Even horses had turned into rumbling machines that belched stinking fog and had one bright eye. No, that was untrue. He knew what was machine and what was alive. His world had its share of machines, but none that ran by themselves. A shiver ran over his body. Blindly, he put out his hand toward the warmth of the brazier. Fire still gave warmth.
His hand brushed against soft skin and he froze. Eyes still closed, he ran his fingertips over Allie’s brow, over her cheeks and across her jaw. He drew a line with his fingers, following her neck to where her pulse beat strongly. She caught his hand in hers, holding it tightly. Pulling her to him, he pressed his lips to the soft skin on her temple. Her curly hair tickled his face, but he didn’t open his eyes.
The feel of a woman…that hadn’t changed. The scent and taste of women hadn’t changed. A deep sigh escaped him as warmth crept into his bones. Soft and sweet, and strong and brave. “Allie,” he whispered. The tent leaned, buffeted by the wind, but the brazier warmed the air, and he opened his eyes to stare at the woman who had saved him from the prison.
“What is it?” Her big brown eyes were questioning. Her lashes cast jagged shadows on her cheeks.
“Thank you.” He slipped his hand behind her neck and pulled her to him.
A little hesitantly, she put her arms around his shoulders. “You’ve got such broad shoulders,” she said, a catch in her voice.
He tugged at her chemise and lifted it over her head, then stopped, perplexed. He had seen brassieres like hers in Rome, but they’d been made of knitted wool. This one was made of silk that stretched like a supple skin. She took it off, a smile curving her lips. Then she stood and slipped off her pants.
In the pale, blue light of the brazier, her skin took on the glow of polished marble. “You look like the statue of a nymph.” He got to his knees and cupped her buttocks in his hands. Holding her tightly, he pressed his face to her sex, letting the smell and feel of her soothe his shattered nerves.

Excerpt from HIRED

“You grab the cushions,” Logan called over the noise of the flapping shrubbery. “I’ll anchor down the parasol.”

Unlocking the door to the living area, I grabbed three pillows and chucked them inside. I went back for the other three then tumbled in, half shutting the door behind myself. My hair was wild, my cheeks stung and my heart pounded as I caught my breath.

I watched Logan close the umbrella and secure the pole into place. He glanced around, shading his eyes with his hand, checking for anything else that might blow away, then headed my way with a train of dry, flat leaves skittering past his feet. I opened the door wide to let him through. He stepped in, still squinting against the dust, as I pushed the door shut with a loud click.

The world went silent. After the howling wind and the roaring sea, the quiet of the house was acute and heavy and fell around us like a dense cloak.

Leaning back against the door, I pulled in a deep breath. “Made it,” I gasped.

“Yeah,” he said, stepping up close—real close.

When I looked up, his cheeks were stained red, several grains of sand hung in his long lashes and his hair was tousled and dusted with gold. “Is that everything tied down?” I asked, trying to ignore my breasts heaving against my halter-top.

“Well, almost everything,” he said with a decidedly carnal grin.

I flattened my palms against the cool glass door behind me. “What else do you need to tie down?”

The right side of his mouth creased upward and he gave the tiniest of twitches with his eyebrows. “I’d like to tie you down,” he said, his gaze coming to rest on my mouth. “To the bed.”

My stomach knotted as excitement, anticipation and sin collided in a delicious tangle.

“But I guess that’s moving a bit fast,” he murmured, bending his head lower. “We only just met.”

“A bit fast for me,” I agreed, absorbing the burning heat from his body as it radiated toward mine.

“Brooke.” He raised one hand and rested it against the wooden doorframe by my left ear. He moved in closer still. The gorgeous spiced aftershave he wore invaded my nostrils and settled not just on my tongue but somewhere else deep inside me. “You remember when you walked out the water yesterday?” he asked in a low, rumbling voice.

“Yes.” How could I forget the toe-curling embarrassment? He’d stared silently as me as I’d ambled up the beach, trying desperately to look cool and unflustered. I felt my cheeks warming further at the memory as my stomach twisted.

“It was a million times better than any Bond movie.”

“It was?”

“Hell, yeah. If they had you as a Bond girl it would be my favorite film. Not just 007, but any film ever.” His mouth slid upward in a grin. “You just about blew my mind.”

“I did?” He’d liked what he’d seen, and I thought he’d been unimpressed with my curvy attributes.

“Oh, yeah, my mind and other parts of my anatomy.”

He ducked his head, his lips a whisper from mine. I could almost taste the salt on his mouth.

“Well, we wouldn’t want that would we, Logan?” I murmured.

“Wouldn’t we?” He raised his eyebrows.

“Sounds painful.” I swallowed, my throat tight.

“It’s already getting painful.” He shifted his weight to the other foot. We were so close now my breast brushed against his chest and my nipples, which had tightened to hard pinched peaks, scraped against him through my clothing.

I reached up to touch his jaw, his bristles catching on my fingertips. Our gazes connected and I rose onto the balls of my feet and pressed my mouth to his.

He opened up and took immediate control of the kiss. He tasted so good—man and ocean, wind and sun—he tasted of everything I was missing in my life and had been for so long. I moved my hands to his shoulders and squeezed hard muscles through his soft cotton shirt. My tongue searched for his and began to explore his mouth.

Logan groaned and let go of the doorframe, cradling the base of my skull in his palm and winding his other arm around my waist. He pulled me close and as the length of our bodies touched, right in the very center of my abdomen, he pressed his steely erection forward. He was right, he was painfully hard.

“Damn, you taste good,” he murmured, trailing a gentle kiss across my cheek.

I tipped my head back and let him explore the base of my ear, the angle of my jaw and the hollow of my throat. “I taste like salt,” I said.

“You taste of the beach and flowers and coconut,” he whispered between kisses. “Delicious.” He pulled back slightly, slipping his fingertips under the shoulders of my cardigan and easing it down my arms. It fell to the floor and he slid his palms back up over my elbows to the base of my neck.

Each tiny section of flesh he touched came alive with sensation and pricked with greedy little goose bumps searching out his caress. I found his mouth again and ran my fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck. I pulled his head to mine harder. I wanted more. Much more.

He was busy, fiddling with the knot at the back of my halter-top. It was cleverly designed with a fitted bra, it had cost a fortune but was well worth it. I felt it slipping free and pulled back from the kiss, crossing my arm over my chest and gripping my opposite shoulder to hold it in place.

“What’s up?” Logan asked, his eyes heavy with desire and his voice thick with lust.

“I’m…I’m big,” I said in a rush then felt silly for saying something so insecure and obvious.

“Me too,” he said, a provocative grin playing on his mouth.

Festive Blog from Lily Harlem: Cold Nights, Hot Bodies

What better time of year to have friends visit! Today, I’m delighted to welcome fellow Brit Babes, Lily Harlem over to my place. Why not join us in a sip of mulled wine, and take a read…

mulled-wine

Thank you for inviting me to your blog at this festive time of year, Kay. It’s always a joy to share a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie with you.

I’ve brought with me my novel Cold Nights, Hot Bodies which is perfect to snuggle up with in front of the fire and forget all the madness of Christmas. I adored writing this story, the heroine is a real book worm much like me. She loves nothing more than to immerse herself in steamy romantic stories and fantasize about the heroes who sweep the maidens off their feet.

book-boyfriend

We all have book boyfriends, right? Well Ashley has many and knows all of their sexual desires off by heart. But what’s she’s lacking is a real life boyfriend, and it looks like it’s never going to happen, until, that is, her friend replaces her dowdy outfit for the Christmas staff party, for a super-sexy red dress – oh wow, what a friend!

red-dress

Luckily, much as Ashley is terrified, she does wear the dress, and then, to her delight catches the attention of hunky Shane Galloway, a man who is prepared to tap into her fantasies and merge them with his own. Of course Ashley’s fantasies, despite her being sexually inexperienced, are imaginative and varied, thanks to her being so widely read. I hope you’ll check out her story and go with Shane and Ashley not just to the beautiful snowy Cotswolds, but also to a place where anything can happen and role play has no limits.

Reader Reviews

“This was a great book that really showed two characters that had amazing chemistry and how the author was able to tweak them in just a way as to make the story different from all the others on the market today.”

“I love this couple and the HEA was brilliant. This is the perfect story to keep you warm at night.”

“This book does show that it pays to let your other half read what is on the e-reader.”

Back Cover Information

All my life I’ve been the quiet bookworm, the office mouse. It hasn’t bothered me. Immersing myself in erotic novels has kept me wriggling on the edge of my seat at work and firmly entrenched in my own fantasy world at night.

Though one thing is bothering me—my damn virginity. If only I could find a sexy bedroom expert to introduce me to the delights of having a lover. Someone handsome and charming, who can rival the hunky alpha males in my books. I have a very vivid, very well-fed imagination—he’ll have to keep up.

Then, one bitterly cold night, thanks to a devious, conniving, so-called friend, the perfect opportunity to rid myself of this pesky virginity problem comes along. Before I know it, the heroes in my novels have come alive in the person of Shane Galloway, who’s pleasuring me with every trick in the book and wheedling into my heart in the hottest ways possible.

Please note Cold Nights, Hot Bodies was previously published with different cover art.

Excerpt

“Ladies and gentlemen,” a loud voice boomed from the doorway right behind us. “Would you all please take your seats for dinner?”

Gratefully I extracted my fingers from Ray’s and turned. The head waiter was gesturing toward the restaurant opposite the bar.

“Come on,” Derek said to me. “Let’s go find some seats.”

“I want you to sit at my table,” Ray said to Derek. “I need to pick your brains about a few things before you-know-what.” He winked exaggeratedly.

Derek nodded. “Sure thing,” he said, stepping away from me with an apologetic smile.

The ripple of nerves in my chest turned into a wave of panic. If Derek was sitting next to Ray then who would I sit next to? I moved with the crowd into the restaurant and glanced at Rachel—she was nice, perhaps I could sit with her. But she was laughing and linking arms with Jeremy, the team leader from Cheltenham branch. My eyes searched the room for someone else familiar. Chairs were being scraped on the floor and the hum of conversation increased as people settled themselves at the dozen or so large, round tables.

I gulped back the last of my champagne. No one else seemed to have a moment’s hesitation about where to sit. For them it was like putting on a pair of slippers or making a cup of tea. Effortless.

For me the urge to run, to turn and flee, was like a primitive instinct. Why the hell was I here? I should just go to my room, read about Tobias’ kinky wedding night. Find out what it would be like to be tied to the bridge of a yacht and have a sexy millionaire squeeze orgasm after orgasm from me.

I fiddled with the heart pendant resting just below the hollow of my neck. Run or stay? Run or stay? There were hardly any unclaimed seats left. My gaze scanned the room, flicking over the large plumes of Christmas flowers standing centrally on each table and the tinsel strung around the picture rails.

Suddenly I spotted a free seat at Rachel’s table, two places away from her. I remembered all my heroines. None of them would turn and run from a room of people when there was a free seat.

Bracing myself, I tilted my chin and stepped toward the table, praying that no one would beat me to it. My hips rolled as I walked and the warmth of the room settled on the exposed upper mounds of my breasts. As I approached the table, the person who would be sitting between Rachel and me turned and looked straight at me.

My heart stuttered. It was Shane Galloway. The delectable Shane Galloway who’d won the overall most productive salesman of the year three years in a row. I’d admired him from afar last year and watched him dance after the meal with Ray’s wife Rose. I gulped. I was offering myself up for a mealtime conversation with a guy so out of my league he might as well live on Mars.

Shane was gorgeous in a rock-star, devil-may-care kind of way. He had jet-black hair that just touched the top of his white collar, the skin on his face was pale and his eyebrows dark and heavy. There was a sprinkle of stubble on his chin and above his top lip. Already he’d loosened his navy-blue tie and undone the first button of his shirt.

I kept putting one foot in front of the other. Felt and saw his gaze slide down my body. His attention hovered for a moment on my rolling hips before rising to my face once more. Then he was standing, standing and reaching for the chair I’d planned on claiming.

Oh god. It was already taken?

He’d intended on sitting next to someone else? He didn’t want me to sit there. He was going to move it. I was going to have to turn away.

I hesitated. Looked into his dark eyes and held my breath.

“Here,” he said in a smooth voice, tilting the left side of his mouth into a smile. “Allow me.”

If I’d thought the rush of nerves earlier was intense then this was like a tsunami. Shane Galloway actually wanted to sit next to me? Wow, the power of a red dress, fishnet stockings and killer heels.

I stretched my glossy lips into a matching smile and prayed I didn’t look as shaky as I felt. “Thanks,” I said, stepping up to the table.

He touched the chair against the back of my knees. I sat, knotted my fingers in my lap and crossed my ankles.

“Hi, Ashley,” Rachel said, leaning forward as Shane sat his tall frame back down. “You look…er…really well.” Her blue eyes were wide behind her spectacles as she absorbed my new look. “Have you been on holiday or something?”

“Er, no, no holiday.”

Everyone at the table turned to me. Even a young, pimpled guy opposite was peering around the tall floral centerpiece to stare.

“How are you, Rachel?” I asked, trying to keep my voice casual.

“Fabulous, thanks and this is great, isn’t it? They always do such a lovely job at The Fenchurch.”

I nodded and reached for the slim glass of water a waiter set before me.

“Have you two met before?” Rachel asked, flicking her gaze between Shane and me.

“No,” Shane answered, smiling my way. “I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure.” His lips looked soft and sensual, his top left tooth crooked by a millimeter over the right one and his eyes sparkled as though full of sin. Dark, naughty, expert sin. The sort of sin bad-boy pirates and dukes intent on satisfaction had in their eyes.

“Ashley,” I said, unknotting my fingers and holding out my hand. “Ashley Jones. I’m from the Chelsea branch.”

He took my hand. Curled big, warm fingers around mine and squeezed gently. “Shane Galloway, Huddersfield branch. It’s lovely to meet you, Ashley.”

A snake of sensation washed up my arm, ran across my shoulder and settled in my chest. I pulled in a breath and was treated to a lungful of his light aftershave. He tipped his head slightly as he carried on staring into my eyes. He pulled in a deep breath too.

“I, er, it’s a pleasure to meet you as well.” I extracted my hand and dragged my gaze from his. If I wasn’t careful I could almost fool myself into thinking he was attracted to me. I wasn’t an expert in this sort of thing but in my books, lingering handshakes, prolonged eye contact and inhaling perfume were all connected to human attraction.

She stared at him, then, “Abraham is a shifter, isn’t he?”

Seth was silent.

“The wolves here looking after me are all shifters. They can switch between being human and animal. Don’t try and tell me they’re not.”

“What do you know about shifters?” He pressed his knuckles against his biceps, the muscles bulging.

“Only what I’ve read in books. That they’re humans who can turn into animals, that they have special powers.”

“Special powers?”

She swallowed. This was getting more surreal by the hour. “Will you just tell me the truth?”

He said nothing.

“Seth.”

He clamped his lips together.

“Goddammit.” She stepped up to him. “Don’t you think I deserve the truth? I’m a sitting duck. There is nothing but a few doors and bolts between me and a supernatural murderer who is out to get me. I’m being pretty calm all things considered, but this…” She banged her fist on his shoulder. “Tell me the truth.”

He didn’t budge but shook his head slightly.

“Don’t do that. Don’t say no. Tell me.” She whacked him again, harder this time. Fear, anger, and frustration warred within her. Her sanity was slipping as was her ability to maintain a brave face. If Seth couldn’t be honest with her—the man who’d fucked her not long ago, who’d said he’d die for her, who she’d entrusted with her life— then what did she have left?

Tears sprang into her eyes, making them prickle. Her throat tightened and a sob bubbled up from her chest.

She banged him again, with both fists this time.

“Hey.” He grabbed her wrists.

She tried to pull free but it was to no avail. “Megan, calm down.”

His words had no effect. She had to get out of there. What the hell was going on? She was a prisoner.

“Megan, please, stop.” He trapped her wrists in just one of his hands and pulled her close so her head was beneath his chin. “Calm the hell down. This isn’t helping anything.” He tightened his free arm around her body.

“No, but…I need to know, I need you…to be honest…with me.” She screwed up her eyes. In spite of her frustration she sagged against him. “I might die. This is my life. I need to know what’s going on.”

“I know.” He leaned back a fraction.

She looked up at him as a tear escaped from her right eye, and trickled down her cheek.

“Can you handle the truth?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“Can you keep a secret? An ancient secret that very few humans have ever been told?”

“Yes. Absolutely.”

He pulled in a breath. “In that case, yes, Abraham is a shifter. The wolf you saw, that was him, in his other body.”

She nodded. A sense of relief washed through her. Far from being worried or scared, the knowledge was a comfort. It confirmed that she wasn’t going mad. Her imagination wasn’t running away with itself. She wasn’t adding up two and two and making five.

He stroked his hand over her hair. “How do you feel now I’ve told you?”

She nodded. “Better. Thank you for trusting me.”

“Well, that goes both ways. You’re trusting us, a lot.”

“I know, but I believe in you.” She paused. “And Nia, she’s a shifter too?”

“Yes.” A muscle flexed in his jaw. It was clear he wasn’t used to talking about theshifters.
Megan looked into his dark eyes; his long lashes cast shadows on his cheeks and his messy black fringe hung forward.

“Are you a shifter?” she asked quietly.

His eyes narrowed a little. “What would you say if I was?”

“I’d say thank you for saving me, in the alley.”

He pulled in a breath, his nostrils flaring. “That was a close call.”

“It was.” She tugged her wrists to free them from his grasp.

He released her.

“And if you hadn’t been there…” She pressed her hands to his cheeks, his thick stubble tickling her palms. “I wouldn’t be standing here now. I’d be a murder victim.”

He kissed her, hard and quick. “Shh, don’t talk about that.”

“It’s hard not to think about it.”

“I don’t want you to. I want you to feel safe, to feel cared for when you’re with me.”

“I do.” She paused. “So, you are a shifter.”

“You know what?” His eyes narrowed.

“What?”

He paused, then, “I’m hungry, like really fucking hungry.”

“Wolf’s appetite, huh?” She raised her eyebrows.

“Yeah, something like that.” He grinned suddenly. “Come on, let’s make food. I’ve used up a lot of energy this evening.”

“Bedroom energy.” She stepped back and released him.
